Most of us in North America became familiar with Kivanc Tatlitug through the beautiful epic series Kurt Seyit ve Sura currently streaming on Netflix. The story, which is based on a true account, is not only a love story, but a historical drama as well. The series tells the story of a Crimean soldier with Turkish loyal to the Czar, and his love of a Russian socialite, during the start of the Russian revolution. Their love spans continents as the lovers flee Russia to what was once the Ottoman Empire. Those of us who watched the series were astounded by the authenticity of the film… especially the scenes of battle and the beautiful city backdrops.
Meerkat Film Production, based in Istanbul, is the creative team behind these beautiful scenes. The team used digital effects to make many of the scenes in the series. In this amazing video, you get to see a breakdown of how some of the city scenes, landscape scenes, and action scenes were created.
